Customs Regulations and Visa Requirements of Netherlands


The Netherlands is included in the list of Schengen countries. Check a2zdirectory for history of Netherlands. The following documents are required to apply for a visa:

  • Valid passport (its closing date must be more than 3 months after the end of the trip);
  • Copy of the passport of the Russian Federation;
  • Two photographs 3.5X4.5;
  • Questionnaire (data are filled in English, Dutch or German);
  • Old passport (if it contains a mark on the earlier receipt of a Schengen visa);
  • Certificate from the place of work of the tourist. It indicates the position of the employee, the length of his work and the amount of wages. Private entrepreneurs submit documents confirming the legality of their activities;
  • An extract from a bank account certifying the availability of funds, at the rate of 38 euros per day of stay in the country, plus the cost of renting a hotel;
  • Students also need a certificate from the university, pensioners – a pension certificate and an extract from the account of the person who paid for the trip.

Children under 18 collect the following package of documents:

  • Poll;
  • Two photographs 3.5X4.5;
  • Copy of birth certificate;
  • Permission from one or both parents if the child travels to the Netherlandswith one of them, or with a third party, respectively.

Personal presence when submitting documents is required. The exception is persons who already have two approved Schengen visas and children under 16 years of age.

When applying for a visa on your own, you are required to attach insurance for 30 thousand euros or more to the main package of documents; a certificate confirming the fact of booking a hotel; as well as direct and return tickets.

During a private visit, you will need an official invitation from a person residing in the Netherlands, a copy of his passport and a salary certificate for 3 months.

Consular fee

The consular fee is 35 euros. Additional payment is subject to the services of the visa center for processing documents (1182 rubles).

Consular fees are not paid:

  • Children under 6 years old; minors entered in the parents’ passport;
  • Students traveling to the Netherlandsto study;
  • Scientists whose trip is of an exploratory nature;
  • Close relatives of EU citizens;
  • Close relatives of Russian citizens legally residing in the Netherlands.

Customs regulations

Allowed to import duty-free:

  • Foreign currency in unlimited quantities. Amounts over 10 thousand euros must be declared;
  • 200 cigarettes, 50 cigars, 250 grams of tobacco or 100 cigarillos;
  • Alcohol with a strength of more than 22% – 1 liter, less than 22% – 2 liters;
  • Eau de toilette (250 ml), perfume (50 ml);
  • 100 grams of tea (40 grams of tea extract) or 500 grams of coffee (200 grams of coffee extract);
  • Goods for personal use up to 175 euros;
  • Medicines with a notarized prescription from a doctor.┬áSee Netherlands import restrictions.

If you cross the border of the Netherlands from the territory of the EU countries, then the duty-free transport of goods is:

  • 10 liters of alcohol with a strength of more than 22%, 20 liters – less than 22%, 90 liters of sparkling wine, 110 liters of beer;
  • 800 cigarettes, no more than 400 cigarillos, 1 kg of tobacco and 200 cigars.

Allowed to export duty-free:

  • Foreign currency in an unlimited amount, but not more than the declared amount;
  • Previously introduced goods;
  • Souvenirs and goods for personal consumption. Their cost should not exceed 175 euros for an adult and 90 euros for a child.

It is forbidden to import and export from the Netherlands:

  • Import animals without a veterinary certificate and plants without a quarantine permit;
  • Unpreserved meat and milk. Other products that have not been preserved are subject to declaration. Their weight should not exceed 2 kg;
  • Drugs, narcotic substances without the permission of local authorities. You can be imprisoned for up to 12 years for trying to smuggle.
  • Items of artistic and historical value;
  • Weapon without permission;
  • Products and souvenirs from rare animals and plants.
