Visa application

Applying for a visa at the embassy

When applying for a visa, you need to provide the embassy with the following series of documents:

a passport valid from the moment of obtaining a visa for at least six months;

a photocopy of the page of the international passport, which contains the personal data of the applicant;

two photographs in 3×4 format, taken recently on a light background, without frames and corners;

a completed application form in English and personally signed by the applicant;

Consular fee

Payment of the consular fee is carried out at the consular department, in dollars, directly at the time of submission of documents.

The cost of a multi-visa valid up to 30 days is 40 USD.

Visa processing times and procedures

Visa processing usually takes one business day.

Applying for a visa at the border

Visa fees

To obtain a visa, you must pay a visa fee:

multiple entry visa, for a stay of up to 15 days – 25 USD;

multiple entry visa for a period of 30 days – 40 USD;

multiple entry visa, up to 90 days – 100 USD.

Payment of the fee is made in dollars or other convertible currency.

Children under the age of 10 are exempted from paying the fee.

Extension of a visa

A tourist visa can be extended if necessary. To do this, you need to contact any office of the Department of Immigration in Nepal, pay the visa fee and fill out all the relevant paperwork.

The visa extension term depends directly on the term of the existing visa and ranges from 15 to 120 days. However, it is worth remembering that the total time spent in Nepal and cannot exceed more than 150 days per year.

Extension of a visa for a period of 15 days will cost 30 USD, if this period is exceeded, a fee is charged in the amount of 2 USD for each extended day.

Customs regulations

Nepal does not restrict the export and import of foreign currency. Large sums of money and valuables are subject to mandatory declaration. See Nepal import restrictions.

It is forbidden to import and export local currency from Nepal. You can exchange money directly in the country. You can make an exchange upon departure from Kathmandu airport. At the border ground crossings, even with a certificate, the exchange is not possible.

Baggage is subject to a thorough inspection at the point of entry into Nepal.

It is allowed to import duty-free into the country:

up to 25 cigars or up to 100 cigarettes;

up to 12 cans of beer or up to 1.5 liters of fortified alcoholic beverages;

items and things for personal use, in a reasonable amount.

Also, 1 tape recorder, 1 video and movie camera, wrist watch, 1 radio receiver, up to 15 audio cassettes, 1 set of pens and electronic goods are issued separately – all these goods must undergo a mandatory declaration upon import for further export from the country.

It is forbidden to import into the country:

military equipment;

weapon;

drugs.

Export from the country is prohibited:

silver;

gold;

wild animals;

precious stones;

horns and skins;

drugs and narcotic drugs.

The export of souvenirs is allowed from the country. Antiques not exceeding 100 years of age can be exported only if there is an appropriate certificate.

Export from the country of any icons, metal statues and paintings can be carried out only with permission obtained from the Department of Archeology of Nepal.
