Visa application
To visit Mexico, citizens of the CIS and Russia require a visa. You can apply for a visa in Moscow at the Consulate of Mexico. Citizens of Russia and the CIS can also apply for an electronic permit granting the right to enter the country on the website of the National Institute of Migration of Mexico. Since May 2010, Russians with a valid US visa in their passport have the right to enter the country without a Mexican visa if the purpose of the visit is tourism, a short-term business visit or transit. The period of stay in Mexico should not exceed more than six months during one trip. The number of visits to Mexico is not limited.
Consular fee
Payment of the consular fee is made in rubles at the exchange rate in force on the day of submission of documents. The fee for issuing a guest or business visa is 134 USD, a tourist visa is 36 USD, payment is made directly at the consular department.
Visa processing time
At the consulate, the reception date is set for 2 or 3 days from the date of sending the visa electronic request. A visa is issued, as a rule, 2-3 days.
Applying for a visa at the consulate
To apply for a visa, you must fill out an electronic request directly on the website of the Mexican Embassy.
Before filling out the questionnaire, it is recommended to prepare in advance all the necessary documents (phone number, name, address of the hotel), since only 10 minutes are allotted for filling out. The questionnaire is filled in Latin letters.
After filling out and sending the questionnaire, the form with the applicant’s data should be printed. An email will be sent to the applicant’s e-mail indicating the date from which it will be possible to apply to the consulate for affixing a visa to the passport.
It is also recommended that after sending the electronic questionnaire, contact the consulate and clarify the availability of the questionnaire in the system.
This is followed by the delivery of a package of documents necessary for obtaining a visa, as well as fingerprints, directly at the consulate. When applying for a visa, you must submit the following documents:
valid passport, valid for at least six months from the end of the trip;
copies of existing valid visas ;
a copy of the page of the international passport (personal data of the applicant);
copies of existing previous Mexican visas ;
a printed application form with the personal signature of the applicant;
two identical color photographs 3×4 cm, taken on a white background;
documents confirming the availability of funds sufficient for the trip (bank statements, certificate of purchase of currency, copies of traveler’s checks, documents for real estate and personal vehicles, etc.).
a certificate from the place of work (certification and translation are not required), filled out on the letterhead of the enterprise, with the obligatory indication of the length of service, salary and position. The certificate must be certified by the signatures of the head and accountant, as well as the seal of the enterprise.
Individual private entrepreneurs must have a photocopy of the certificate confirming the registration of the enterprise, as well as a certificate of tax registration for the enterprise, a certificate written in the form of 2NDFL (monthly income must be at least 800 USD);
For students – a certificate issued from the place of study, a student ID card, a certificate from the place of work of the person sponsoring the trip, as well as his statement that he undertakes to pay all expenses for his stay in Mexico, with a personal signature;
Schoolchildren – a certificate from the school, a certificate from the place of work of the person sponsoring the trip, as well as his statement that he assumes all expenses for travel and stay in the country, with a personal signature;
Non-working pensioners – a photocopy of the pension certificate, a certificate from the place of work of the person who bears the costs of the trip to Mexico, as well as his statement confirming that he undertakes to sponsor the trip and stay in Mexico ;
for children leaving the country accompanied by one of the parents, as well as third parties, you must have a copy of the first page of the passport with the personal data of the principal, as well as a notarized power of attorney to leave from the remaining parent.
After receiving the documents by the consular department, the applicant’s thumbprints are scanned (regardless of age).
Transit visa
Visa-free transit is allowed in the country during the day, provided that the tourist arriving by plane in Mexico has a visa and tickets confirming the final destination. It is not allowed to leave the airport area.
Photo Requirements
Photos attached to the application must meet the following mandatory requirements:
3×4 cm;
completed not earlier than six months before the application for a visa;
on matte photo paper;
a clear color image (70% of the image), made on a white background;
the photo should be without corners, frames and ovals;
the photo should not include sunglasses, hats, scarves, exceptions are available in case of religious reasons.
Customs regulations
The export and import of foreign currency into the country is not limited (a declaration is required), national currency – in the equivalent of up to 10,000 USD. See Mexico import restrictions.
It is allowed to import duty-free into the country:
up to 50 cigars or 400 cigarettes or 250 grams of tobacco;
up to 3 liters of wine or other spirits;
a reasonable amount of perfumery, 1 camera, 1 camera and 12 video cassettes (films) for them, as well as other goods worth no more than 300 USD.
Other additional goods in excess of 500 USD may also be imported duty-free, but in this case it will be necessary to prove their use for non-commercial purposes.
When entering the country, a mandatory customs declaration is filled out, which lists all valuable items imported into Mexico.
Import into the country is prohibited:
fresh vegetables, fruits and products prepared from them;
seeds, cuttings, soil, plants, flowers;
meat products and fresh meat (with the exception of canned meat, except for pork);
medicines without a prescription or a medical card;
pornographic publications;
psychotropic substances.
When importing ammunition and firearms, you must have a special permit obtained from the Secretariat of National Security. Importing drugs into the country is punishable by a high fine and imprisonment of up to 25 years.
Prohibited export from the country:
antiques;
archaeological values;
rare birds and animals, as well as their stuffed animals and skins;
precious metals.
The export of alcoholic and tobacco products from the country is free.
All passengers departing the country on international flights pay a fee ranging from 18 to 29 USD, depending on the airport. Exempt from paying the fee are children, diplomats and transit passengers.
Traveling with pets requires you to have an international veterinary certificate, which must be issued more than a week before crossing the border. Dogs and cats must have an additional certificate of vaccination against rabies.
